Below is an article from the Port of Brisbane regarding their lighting upgrade to LED lights as part of their Climate Change Commitment.
Part of the Port of Brisbane Corporation’s (PBC) Climate Change Commitment is to continuously improve resource efficiency, and this includes looking at more efficient lighting.
As part of a lighting upgrade, new LED lights have been installed in several places around the port, including the outside ceiling and entrance of the Multi-user Terminal at the Grain Berth, and in the car parks at Scarborough and Cabbage Tree Creek boat harbors. The lights have also been trialed in the Port Office parking lot and along a stretch of Curlew Street. The street light trials may be expanded to other areas in the future.
In 2008/2009, outdoor lighting accounted for 20% of PBC’s total electricity use, making the introduction of lower wattage lights an integral part of PBC reducing its carbon footprint. The LED lights burn at lower wattage than standard light installations, using about half of the electricity produced by the previous lights. They also last up to five times longer, achieving both maintenance and replacement savings. Unlike the previous lamps, the new lights do not contain dangerous chemicals,
meaning they are safer to dispose of.
