COMPANY NEWS
LED Light Works Canada
Currently our CEO, Kevin Day, is in Canada working with our Canadian branch on some exciting projects and further developing the Canadian team. While Canada pays far less for its electricity than Australia, the very high level of carbon emissions per kilowatt hour in provinces like Alerberta, are encouraging businesses and government alike to seek to limit their electricity use where possible. Our Canadian office, while in its infancy, is projecting fantastic growth and a positive impact based on the environmental conscience of the Canadian people, typically leaders in sustainable initiatives.
Living Smart EcoBiz Expo
July saw LED Light Works attend the Sunshine Coast Council’s, Living Smart EcoBiz Expo, held at the Caloundra Events Centre. We had a great day and enjoyed stepping away from the commercial side of business and taking our products to the general market. The stall was definitely one of the busiest and we were able to provide consumers with the knowledge to change their current lighting to a safer, greener alternative. Thanks to all of our staff who participated in the event and for the public for taking the initiative to find environmentally sustainable solutions for your homes!

Networking Event
We are currently in the process of organising a networking event to be held in Brisbane later in the year. The event will include a short LED demonstration and presentation, followed by light refreshments and the opportunity to network with local businesses who are interested in sustainable business practices. To register your interest, please email carlyc@ledlightworks.com.au
NEW PRODUCTS
While panel lights have been a key part of our product range since our inception, recent improvements to our chipset and framing have made for sensational product, which has been in high demand.

SUSTAINABILITY POLICIES IN BUSINESS
Sustainable business policies are introduced to manage environmental and social impacts that can be controlled and changed to increase the long term longevity of the business and society in general.
Many businesses are now implementing managers and policies to improve sustainability performance in the work place. A major initiative of sustainable business is to eliminate or decrease the impact made on the environment. One factor of sustainable policies include establishing energy mangement systems by using environmentally safe and sustainable energy sources, such as replacing current inefficient light sources….

NEWSTORIES
At LED Light Works we love reading about large companies who are taking the initiative and implenting environmental policies and procedures. The following stories show two different applications where LED lights have been used.

Melbourne’s Westgate Bridge will be covered in thousands of new lights, in a face-lift that is expected to reinvigorate the city’s night skyline.
The Victorian Government will spend about $20-million on the lights, which will be placed on the bridge’s cabling poles and lanes.
The Roads Minister Tim Pallas says the lights are part of a wider $1.4 billion upgrade of the bridge, which includes the installation of permanent anti-suicide barriers.
“That will provide for a safer, more visible structure, and ultimately one that I think will aptly demonstrate a key piece of urban infrastructure for the city of Melbourne,” he said.
The lights can be illuminated in patterns for special events such as New Year’s Eve.
“The LED lights along both the cable stays and the deck of the bridge will be programmed by a computer and can shine effectively in any number of different colours,” he said.

| The first ever ‘green’ BIG W in this country has just opened in Invernell, with Woolworths promising that its latest store will use around 30% less energy than a traditional department store.
According to the company, the north-western NSW store will be piloting environmental technologies set to reduce its energy consumption enough to power 37 households for a year or to the equivalent of removing 62 cars from the road. “We are extremely excited to make Inverell our first green store, featuring a whole host of cutting edge technology designed to reduce our environmental footprint,” BIG W director Julie Coates said. Technologies being employed at the Invernell store to reduce consumption include the implementation of air conditioning units that employ temperature sensing devices and optimum start-up time, as well as T5 fluorescent lighting in the store and back of house areas and LED lights in displays and down lighting – reducing energy consumption by up to 70%. The store will also adhere to a strict water saving strategy using both water saving devices throughout and rooftop rainwater harvesting. BIG W stores saved around 172 million litres of water during 2009 as part of its ‘water wise’ project. Solar panels are also being used in conjunction with ‘Thermatech’ reflective paint in order to heat the store’s water as well as reflect sunlight to keep the store cooler. According to Woolworths, ‘Thermatech’ paint has not been used on a retail building in Australia before. |
